Excavation in the grounds of Littlecote House 1978–1991 revealed a Romano-British villa complex, a twelfth to fifteenth century medieval village, and a seventeenth/eighteenth century hunting lodge. As the excavation progressed the villa remains were consolidated to present a permanent monument for public viewing.
